Through the ensuing years, a myriad of fund-raising events such as book sales, guest speakers, authors' donations and wine-tasting parties, the library was fortunate to implement a childrens' program in 1997 and acquire three computers in 1998.
As rapid growth continued, the library was re-named "Basye/Orkney Springs Community Library" and it was expanded in 2004 to occupy not only the entire existing building but an addition of a wing needed to house donations and storage. All the work was tirelessly donated and performed by local contractors and residents who now proudly state that they rent the space from Bryce Resort. Our Library is all-volunteer staffed and has become a daily busy hub of card-holders and visitors to the area.
One of the brighter stars of our community is our public library. As a branch of the Shenandoah Public Library system, it was established through the joint efforts of local residents as "Basye Station Public Library" in 1993 in a portion of space in the Airport building, donated by Bryce Resort. The library was stocked with private donations and books from the County Library in Edinburg. At the time it was hailed as the "1st Fly Thru Book Service"!
These programs for children will be held on Saurdays at 10:30 am. Everyone is welcome!
