Bryce Resort is located on Resort Drive, Route 836, and provides numerous activites for its members and the general public, but is most famous for its skiing and golf. Throughout the year, the Resort sponsors tournaments, programs, sales, and dinners to benefit the Orkney-Basye Rescue Squad and Volunteeer Fire Department as well as other community charities.

Bryce Resort Facts:

  • The 500-acre Resort is owned by members and operated as a non-stock corporation.
  • The public is welcome and encouraged to use most of the facilities.
  • 18-hole, par 71 golf course, pro shop, driving range and putting green.
  • Ski/snowboarding slopes. Snowmaking and snow grooming equipment.
  • 45-acre Lake Laura with small grassy beach, refreshment stand and picnic grounds, four paddle boats and seven canoes; Swimming, fishing and non-gasoline boats; Three-mile hiking trail rings the Lake.
  • Private members' sports complex with seven tennis courts (four public and three private), swimming pool, playground, showers and locker rooms with saunas.
  • The Grille, serving breakfast and lunch during summer months.
  • Ski Lodge with cafeteria, lockers, ski shop and game room.
  • Ski rental facility with skis, boots, poles, snowboards for rent; ski patrol and first aid station and ski school.
  • Swimming pool, two tennis courts and picnic grounds in public recreation area near the lake.
  • Stables.
  • Airport with 2,240-foot runway, VFR and daylight operations only. Tie-down facilities. Designated private, but public is welcome. Walking distance to restaurants, golf and skiing.
  • About 20 full-time and 150 seasonal employees.

Who Lives at Bryce?

  • The area immediately adjacent to Bryce Resort's facilities has over 1,200 living units.
  • 795 are private homes
  • 211 are privately owned condos
  • 67 are privately owned townhouses
  • 200 are time-share units
  • 100 of the 1,200 unites are offered for rent to the public
  • About 175 of them are occupied full time, representing 350 people
  • About 1,025 are weekend or vacation properties (1,800 people)
  • Over 2,000 unimproved lots remain.

Chronology of the Development of Bryce Resort

  • 1960: Pete Brice opens negotiations to buy area farms.
  • 1963: Ski area development begins.
  • 1964: Roads are laid out and building begins.
  • 1965: Lots are platted.
  • 1966: 2,300-foot airstrip is added.
  • 1967: The original water treatment plant is built.
  • 1968: Home site development and sales begin.
  • 1969: Joe Luter acquires the majority of stock.
  • 1970: Golf course is designed and built. Stoney Creek Utilities Corp. is formed. $8 million in real estate is sold. The main lodge is built.
  • 1971: Lake Laura is built.. 65 condos are built.
  • 1974: $5 million more in real estate is sold.
  • 1975: Bryce Mountain Ski and Country Club forms and takes over the Resort.
  • 1980: A membership corporation takes over as Bryce Resort.
  • 1986: Stoney Creek Sanitation District begins.
  • 1996: Ski rental building is built.
  • 1999: A $1 million irrigation system is installed on golf course.
  • 2000: Main lodge and restaurant undergoes $1 million renovation.
